Air Valves

Apco Combination Air Valve (ASU)

DESIGN FEATURES:

APCO Single Body Combination Air Valves (ASU) can be used for clean or dirty services. The unique venting design provides varied and predictable air flow over a wide range of air release and air/vacuum conditions. A large diameter Air/Vacuum Disc provides high volume air flow for rapid venting during pipeline filling and allows high volumes of air to enter the pipeline during draining. During normal pipeline flow conditions, the dual-range air release design prevents air build up and resultant flow restrictions under changing conditions and through the full flow range.

Apco Air Release Valve (ARV)

DESIGN FEATURES:

Air Release Valves function to release air pockets that collect at each high point of a pressured pipeline, and are essential for pipeline efficiency and water hammer protection. Air Release Valves are available in a wide variety of orifice sizes and materials of construction to meet a wide range of applications.

Apco Air/Vacuum Valves (AVV)

DESIGN FEATURES:

Air/Vacuum Valves are float operated and have a large discharge orifice equal in size to the valve’s inlet. Air/Vacuum valves allow large volumes of air to be exhausted from or admitted into a pipeline as it is being filled or drained. As the pipeline fills, fluid enters the valve, raises the float and shuts-off. When draining the pipeline, the float drops and allows air to enter, preventing a vacuum and possible pipeline collapse or damaging water column separation.

Apco Single Body Combination Air Valves

DESIGN FEATURES:

Combines the features of Air/Vacuum Valves and Air Release Valves. These valves are also called Double Orifice Air Valves. These valves are installed on all high points of a system where it has been determined dual function Air/Vacuum and Air Release Valves are needed to release air and also protect a pipeline from vacuum. Combination Air Valves are available in 2 body styles - 1) single body combination or 2) custom built combination with two bodies. The single body combination is used where compactness is preferred. Generally, it is sound engineering practice to use Combination Air Valves instead of simple purpose Air/ Vacuum Valves.

Apco Dual Body Combination Air Valves (AVD)

DESIGN FEATURES:

Combines the features of Air/Vacuum Valves and Air Release Valves. These valves are also called Double Orifice Air Valves. Apco Slow Closing Air/Vacuum Valves (AVS)

DESIGN FEATURES:

Slow Closing Air/Vacuum Valves are standard Air/Vacuum Valves mounted on a Surge Check Valve. The Air/Vacuum Valve allows air to escape freely. The Surge Check is a normally open valve so that air passes through unrestricted, but when water rushes into the Surge Check Valve the disc closes and reduces the rate of flow of water into the air valve by means of throttling holes in the disc. This ensures normal gentle closing of the Air/Vacuum Valve and minimizes surges.

Apco Dual Body Combination Slow Closing Air Valves (ACS)

DESIGN FEATURES:

Are standard Air and Vacuum Valves mounted on a Surge Check Unit. The Air and Vacuum Valve operates in the normal fashion allowing air to escape freely at any velocity (maximum discharge velocity is approximately 300 feet per second at 6.7 PSI; however, good pipe line design restricts velocity flows of air to 10 feet per second which occurs at approximately 1 PSI). The Surge Check Unit operates on the interphases between the kinetic energy in the relative velocity flows of air and water. The Surge Check is a normally open valve, spring loaded, so that air passes through unrestricted, but when water rushes into the Surge Check Unit, the disc commences to close against the spring and reduces the rate of flow of water into the air valve by means of throttling holes in the disc. This ensures normal gentle closing of the Air and Vacuum Valve, regardless of the initial velocity flow involved and minimizes surges when the valve closes. 

Apco Sewage Air Release Valves (ASR)

DESIGN FEATURES:

Because sewage media generates large quantities of gas, the potential for air entrapped with sewage pipelines is even greater than in water lines. It is recommended that each high point be protected with a Sewage Air Release Valve. The elongated body of the Sewage Air Release Valve minimizes clogging by permitting use of a much longer float stem to prevent the sewage from fouling up the mechanism.

Apco Single Body Sewage Combination Air Valves (ASC)

DESIGN FEATURES:

Operate same as Air Valves for Water, differing only in appearance with elongated taller bodies. Elongated bodies minimize clogging by permitting use of a much longer float stem, to prevent the sewage from fouling up the mechanism. For ease of maintenance, Flushing Attachments are recommended with the Valves, as shown. When adding Sewage Air Valves to your pipeline, the same criteria applies, as with the standard Air Valves. However, the potential for air entrapped with Sewage pipelines, is even greater than that found in water lines, because Sewage media generates large quantities of gases. Therefore, it is recommended each high point be protected with an automatic Sewage Air Release Valve.

Apco Dual Body Sewage Combination Air Valves (ASD)

DESIGN FEATURES:

The Custom Combination Sewage Air Valves are dual function venting large volumes of air through the large orifice and small pockets of air through the small orifice before shutting off spurt free. Thereafter, while the air valve is pressurized, pockets of air collecting will be vented through the small orifice automatically. Should vacuum develop in the force main, the upper spherical float will open the large orifice permitting large volumes of air to re-enter the force main to break the vacuum. The upper float is protected against opening vacuum impact with a Buna-N Bumper. When the force main returns to normal pressure, the Combination Sewage Air Valve will close without spillage.

Apco Vacuum Relief/Air Inlet Valves (AVR)

DESIGN FEATURES:

Vacuum Relief/Air Inlet Valves are normally closed valves. When the system pressure becomes negative, the valve opens, allowing air into the system to prevent a vacuum from building. When system pressure returns to positive, the Vacuum Relief/Air Inlet Valve closes air tight. Standard Vacuum Relief/Air Inlet Valves are designed to open with a minimal, 1/4 psi pressure differential across the orifice. Higher or lower relief settings are available to suit the application.

Apco Surge Check Valves (CSV)

DESIGN FEATURES:

The Surge Check Valve is designed for installation to the inlet of the existing Air/Vacuum Valve on the line. It consists of a body, seat, flow-disc and compression spring. The surge check unit will operate on the inter-phase between the kinetic energy and relative velocity flows of air and water. After air passes through and water rushes into the surge check, the disc starts to close, reducing the rate of flow of water into the air valve by means of throttling orifices in the disc to prevent water hammer in the air valves. The surge check orifices are adjustable for regulation in the field to suit operating conditions.
